We propose a unified variational framework for image segmentation under sparse pixel-level supervision. Our method is based on a simplex-constrained Potts model with a smooth perimeter regularizer, yielding a convex, smooth energy functional that can be used as a training loss in weakly supervised deep learning paradigms or optimized efficiently using iterative methods. Sparse labels are incorporated into the data fidelity term by constructing a fuzzy membership function via a function extension problem in a Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space (RKHS), which can effectively capture inhomogeneous intensity statistics. The derived discrete loss for training standard networks demonstrates robustness and consistent improvements over non-training and partial cross-entropy (PCE) baselines in experiments, achieving comparable performance without requiring ground-truth segmentation images.
The segmentation of multiple degradations has been a challenging problem in the field of image segmentation. Existing level set approaches commonly adopt a length regularization term to constrain the geometric shape of the segmentation contour. However, the introduction of the le…
Whole-slide images (WSIs) provide rich tissue-level and cellular-level information, but storing and transmitting high-magnification pathology data is resource-intensive. Moreover, annotating WSIs at the pixel level is labor-intensive and time-consuming. Therefore, it is important…
Semi-supervised 3D medical image segmentation reduces the need for dense voxel-level annotations by exploiting unlabeled volumes. Although existing methods such as consistency regularization, pseudo-labeling, and co-training improve prediction-level robustness, they often provide…
Recent advances in semi-supervised medical image segmentation have achieved remarkable performance through prediction consistency, pseudo-label supervision, and hard-region supervision. However, these methods primarily improve supervision quality rather than explicitly enforcing…
Semi-supervised learning (SSL) is an effective solution for medical image segmentation with limited annotations. Existing SSL methods mainly rely on pseudo-labels generated by teacher-student supervision or cross-network consistency. However, these methods lack an explicit struct…
Weakly supervised segmentation relies heavily on class activation maps (CAMs) to initially localize target regions. However, CAMs are often noisy and prone to catastrophic failures. Existing remedies typically introduce additional training stages or prototype learning, increasing…
